• Replace one fastener at a time. Keeps the cover aligned and stops the gasket shifting.
• Plastic covers get torqued. Use the factory 1KD rocker cover specification from a workshop manual, typically around 10 to 12 Nm, but verify the figure for your application.
• Alloy covers get tightened by feel only. Do not torque them.
• Inspect the gasket and rubber grommets. Replace anything hardened, worn or leaking. Oil residue around the bolt holes means a grommet has failed.
• Clean the mating surface before the cover goes back on.
• No special tools. A standard socket set and a torque wrench.

Do not overtighten a plastic cover. Over-torquing cracks the plastic 1KD rocker cover or crushes the rubber grommets, and the result is an oil leak. Use a torque wrench and follow factory specification. On aluminium covers, tighten by feel only.
